Karla de Lara's work is a vivid exploration of identity, memory, and the interplay between tradition and contemporary life. Rooted in Mexican cultural narratives yet in constant dialogue with global artistic currents, her pieces blend bold color, rich texture, and emotive imagery to invite viewers into a deeply reflective and immersive experience. This exhibition at OZA International in San José del Cabo brings together 20 paintings that highlight de Lara's visionary approach — where personal history meets universal resonance, and where each work reveals a compelling balance of technique, intuition, and cultural pulse.

About the Artist

Born in Guadalajara in 1972, Karla de Lara is widely regarded as the mother of hyperrealistic pop art — a genre she pioneered by fusing the intensity of pop culture imagery with a painterly depth rooted in Mexican identity. Her career spans over 350 solo exhibitions across 38 countries, including presentations at Art Basel and Art Miami. She is the only living artist whose work has entered the permanent collection of the National Museum of History at Chapultepec Castle in Mexico City, and she was the first Mexican artist to win first place at the Biennial of Nations.

De Lara's paintings transform cityscapes, cultural icons, and everyday scenes into luminous compositions charged with emotion. Her signature high-gloss technique and masterful attention to light, atmosphere, and architecture give each canvas a sense of movement and life that draws viewers in from across a room. What to Expect

The 20 works in this exhibition range from vibrant urban scenes — Yellow Cab, Tom's Alley, Eye of the City — to deeply personal pieces that draw on Mexican heritage and art history, such as Adelitas de Velázquez and Columna Rota. Visitors will encounter de Lara's full creative range: the energy of global cities, the intimacy of cultural memory, and the bold palette that has made her one of the most collected contemporary artists working today.

Whether you are discovering her work for the first time or are already familiar with her distinctive style, this exhibition offers a rare opportunity to experience a major body of work by Karla de Lara in the heart of the Los Cabos gallery district.
