Alejandro Velasco
Mexico
Born in Mexico City in 1959, Alejandro Velasco studied architecture at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM).
The foundry that bears his name began operations in 1948 under the direction of his father, Jesús Velasco Bautista, who in 1987 started casting small-format sculptures in his spare time. From that point on, the foundry began working with artists such as Juan Soriano, Gunther Gerzso, José Luis Cuevas, Leonora Carrington, Sergio Hernández, Vicente Rojo, Manuel Felguérez, Joy Laville, architect Teodoro González de León, and Brian Nissen, among many others.
Over time, Velasco immersed himself fully in the casting of artistic works and moved with great success into monumental sculpture. In 2014, Alejandro Velasco began modeling his own sculptures, drawing on surrealist influences. This collection has since been exhibited throughout Mexico.
